"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime"-MARK TWAIN

Day 1 of Northern Tour

We got up this morning with raindrops on the roof. My plan to leave by 7AM to beat the rain hadn't worked out. Regardless, we still pulled out of the driveway at 7:02. Light rain for the first 50 miles or do, but we outran it by the first stop at a Hardee's for country ham biscuits and coffee.  An uneventful day as we made our way through Meridian, Tuscaloosa,  and Birmingham. Always dark clouds in the rear view mirror.

We had reservations at a Harvest Host location just north of Gadsden, AL for the night. After reading the latest comments from recent visitors about getting stuck after rain, we contacted the host and cancelled. Now we had to find another spot for the night.

Cloudland Canyon, a Georgia state park was only a couple hours more driving. I called and got lucky, reserving a wonderful site for the night. $38.00 W/E.  We arrived before 4PM Eastern time, and are enjoying a quiet evening after a busy day.
