"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime"-MARK TWAIN

Cape Disappointment

Today was a catchup day.  We are in Long Beach, Washington, in a place called Anderson"s RV Park.  We are on a peninsula between the Pacific and a large bay called Willapa.  They say 1/6th of the oysters produced in the US comes from that bay.  All I know is that they are really good.
We did laundry and some housekeeping this morning, the went for a little sightseeing.  The first stop was an overlook of the Columbia River headlands.

From reading the attached pictures, you can see it is a rather dangerous piece of water.

All those shipwrecks led to the building of the Cape Disappointment light house.  Here are a couple of picturs along with one of the light keepers house.

Those that know me well will appreciate the fact that we visited a place called Cape Disappointment today.  We plan to change travel direction tomorrow and head East rather than North.  I have a tendency to feel disappointed on such days.  I want the travel and vacation to go on forever, but it's not to be.  We have had a great time the last five weeks, and still have another couple to go before arriving back home. It will be great to see family and friends again.
I went down to the beach again tonight to get a few parting shots.  A couple looked pretty good and one in paticular caught my eye.

Starting tomorrow, just like these pelicans, we'll be heading toward home.
