"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime"-MARK TWAIN

We Arrived

The egg has been rolling for a week, now.  We departed home last Sunday around noon with Memphis the destination for the night.  Friends had a new grandson, and Wanda wasn’t going anywhere without getting in a little baby time.

From Memphis we traveled a familiar route westward.  Monday night on Beaver lake, Arkansas. Tuesday was Fall River cg in Kansas,  Lots of water everywhere this year.

Spent the next night in Dodge City, KS.  Been there, done that.

Thursday found us at another dam. On the Arkansas river in Colorado.

Friday and Saturday nights were spent along Hwy 50, west of Pueblo, CO.  On Saturday we attempted two scenic backroad routes to Cripple Creek, CO.  Had to turn around on both due to flood damage.  Finally took the highway there.  Once an old mining town, it has been restored, and is apparently the gambling mecca of Colorado.  Most all the old historic buildings were now casinos.

On the way back to the campground we managed to take a small scenic road called Skyline Drive.  Not for the faint of heart.

Tonight, Sunday, finds us at our destination for the next few days.  Buena Vista, Colorado.  Stay tuned….jc

  1. Check out the Barbara Whipple Hiking Trail in BV. It's in town, down by the river. If you head toward Salida stop at the Presidential Range overlook. Stunning views.
