"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime"-MARK TWAIN

Cool Thoughts

DSCN0217 (Medium)
With the temperatures here some days  knocking on 100 degrees, with heat indexes of 105 to 107, it’s pretty miserable.  On other days it will be almost zero humidity which is very unusual for us, but almost as bad.  I washed both our vehicles today and they were drying as quickly as I washed.  Normally, you can’t towel dry a car down here because of the humidity.  Very strange weather.
Either way, it doesn’t take much to get your thoughts running toward cooler places.  We hope to be somewhere soon that will be more comfortable.  We could head for the headwaters of ol’ Man River',

or maybe here.

This wouldn’t be a bad place,

or even, here.

Sometimes you even stumble upon places like this on the way.

Those that head South in the Winter are called snowbirds.  What name do those of us that run from the heat of Summer go by?  whatever it is, I intend to be one in just a few days….jc

  1. I loved Polebridge!!! What did you think of it? In 2010 I took a 6 month trip out west and never took my sweatshirts off--was in perfect temperature every bit of the time until I headed back east. If I could hitch up and go right now, I would.

Have a great time wherever you go. I hear SD is hot. Have you been up around Stanley Idaho or on the Oregon Coast. I guess I have to go back and read through your blog. After reading your post, just had to wish you a happy "escape". :)

  2. Looks like you are thinking of places near us Tin Tee Pee folks--come on out although here at our house right now it's not so cool. And Mike says it's not cool in Custer, SD, either! I wonder if that young couple still has the bakery at Polebridge?

  5. Ahhh, Polebridge. I spent a wonderful few weeks exploring around there, Bowman Lake, etc. It was really cool. The locals call it the North Country. That was supposed to be on my agenda for this summer. And I love the car Stonehenge, LOL.

  6. I checked Gardiner's weather (Yellowstone) today because I'm dreaming of cooler days myself, but even they have a high of 85 today! Pretty warm for Yellowstone! I'm inside scrapbooking all day today and yesterday to beat the heat.
