It was warm on Sunday night and we slept with a couple of windows open. I was awakened by a bird chirping and realized it was getting light outside. About that same time, a car passed our campsite leaving the camnpground. A look at the clock said 4:40 AM.
As I was awake, and had thought about trying to get some early morning pictures of the Canyon, I got up, got dressed and headed out on foot toward the Lodge, and Bright Angel Point.
Racing the Sun.
And, there it is!
First light set the trees aglow.
I’m headed out there. See the guy standing on top of the rock.
First light in the Canyon.
Crawling down the Canyon.
Almost to the lower reaches of the Canyon.
It was an awesome sight to behold, and my little camera had no chance of capturing the beauty I was seeing.
On the way back to the campground I passed this row of older cabins. We stayed in one of them back in 1983, on our Griswald type vacation.
Also ran into this bird on the trail. It didn’t want to leave the area, just fluttering along ahead of me for quite some distance.
Later in the day we took the drive out to Point Imperial and Cape Royal with some friends.
Lots of beautiful scenery, but once again it was the middle of the day and my camera couldn’t do it justice.
Ended the day with a beautiful sunset from the back of the campground.

ReplyDeleteGreat canyon pictures!
ReplyDeleteNice that you got out for sunrise at the canyon. Something I rarely do. Yet I can see that golden light on the pines in my back yard.
ReplyDeleteYour little camera (and operator) did an awesome job! Thanks for sharing.
