Long Driving Day

We both overslept this morning.  It was almost eight before either of us got out of bed.  A dreary, foggy morning, with bouts of rain as we departed Sandy Creek.

Not much to show for the day other than rain.  It finally cleared off somewhat as we neared Austin.  A little jog South took us to Driftwood, TX.  The biggest parking lot I’ve ever seen for a BBQ joint.  The picture shows just half of it.

Salt Lick BBQ.  This is the back side of the kitchen.

A small pit they have in the dining area.

This is what we stopped for.

Great ribs and brisket.  Sausage was just OK, for my tastes.  Purchased an additional half pound of brisket for the road.  Already looking forward to that brisket sandwich tomorrow.

The evening finds us at Potters Creek COE campground on Canyon Lake.  Somewhere between Austin and San Antonio, I think.

Tomorrow, we plan to stop around Fort Stockton, and make the run for Big Bend Country Sunday.  Will be glad when all this driving ends, and we can get down to vacationing with friends.

  1. Well, I didn't think I was hungry as I was reading this post (and it's 6 p.m.) Hmm, that plate looks might good. I might run down to our local BBQ place. . . .

  2. Long drives are the down side of RVing to me. I wish I could be one of those who feel that it's all about the journey. :)

I enjoyed the pit in the dining room photo. And the food looks so good!

  3. Not being a fan of BBQ, I probably would have had an egg salad sandwich in the rig. :) So many people stop in Fort Stockton. Not much else out there in that neck of the woods...

  4. Darn, wish you weren't traveling through so fast. You are in my part of the country. Great BBQ at the Salt Lick in Driftwood. And camped at the Potter's Creek COE, how many times have I been there??? Have a safe trip and slow down the next time you come through. Would love to meet you and Sally.

  6. After seeing your plate of food, it is making me hungry for some bbq briskets. That must be an awesome restaurant to have a parking lot that big!
