We departed home a week ago today, the 29th, in a drizzle. The forecast was for a couple days of sun. Should have known better. We crossed Galveston Bay via ferry. Not Sally’s favorite mode of transportation.
Arrived at Brazos Bend State Park for a molded fiberglass gathering. A New Year’s tradition for lots of folks from around Houston, but our first time to attend.
We had an enjoyable four days of visiting and fellowship, topped off by a wonderful New Year’s feast. Sorry, but no pictures. And did I mention it rained?
By Saturday morning I was feeling mildewed. We broke down everything in a light rain and headed further West. Destination was to be Garner State Park some fifty miles West of San Antonio. A phone call to the park let us know that it was closed due to a special deer hunt. Plan B was to head for Canyon Lake, and Potters Creek COE campground. Arrived there to bright sunshine and a host couple we had met in Kansas last year. Quite a surprise.
We pulled most everything out of the truck so it could dry out. Made a token trip to downtown San Antonio for some shopping.
We’re enjoying our time here. Clear, cool, and breezy. Lots of deer and other wildlife.
And, some beautiful sunsets.
Just hanging out with friends, and slowly moving Westward……jc
I hope you are keeping warm out there at Potter's Creek. These nighttime lows a a pain.
ReplyDeleteThought of you today (or was it yesterday? West Texas has that effect) when I saw the exit for Big Bend. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteNice looking park, we will have to visit on one of Texas trips this year:)
ReplyDeleteHope you dry out soon.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Keep heading west. We're looking forward to seeing you in this neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see a westward-ho post from you -- finally!
ReplyDeleteSo happy you found sunshine, gorgeous sunsets and old friends!.
Jerry, know what you mean....this has been an dreary trip....but we have had three days of sun...cold sun until today. But the view tonight of the full moon over the desert at Picacho Peak makes it all worth while. Have a great time at Big Bend! See you in the desert!
ReplyDeleteWe spent a week or so in Brazos Bend a couple years ago and loved it, kept a tight rein on Emmi! Hope you see lots more sun!
ReplyDeleteHow long will you be at Potter's Creek?
ReplyDeleteLeft today. Heading for Big Bend area.
DeleteDarn....hope you have decent weather down there. It has been pretty rough there. Next time you are in the area, I would love to meet you both and Sally.
