"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime"-MARK TWAIN

Going Dark, or maybe just dim.

IMG_1704 (Large)

I just noticed that I did eleven blog posts during the month of July, and three in August. I honestly thought the number was less.

I started Eggrollings in April of 2011.  We had already pulled the egg to many fascinating places in the US and Canada before I got the courage to make the first post.  I figured the immediate family, as well as a few friends might find it entertaining. Thought there’s no way I would ever have a “following”  as so many of the blogs I read.

Imagine my surprise when I received a comment from someone I didn’t know.  And then I  found myself on HitchItch.  Readership went upward, accordingly.

It was fun taking pictures, and writing about where we went, and what we did.  We visited places we read about on other blogs, and hoped someone might visit a location based on our recommendations.

Things have changed since 2011.  Now, most everyone has a smart phone.  Things like Facebook, Face time, Life360, etc.; make it possible to take a picture, make a comment, and post it to the world almost immediately.  Family members can know immediately where we are located with the touch of a screen.  If we do find ourselves in a remote area, I can push a button on a device, and four different people receive our GPS coordinates by way of a satellite transmission.

I’ve reached the point where doing a blog isn’t as much fun as it used to be.  The need isn’t there like it once was.  Many places we now visit are repeats.  I’ve blogged about them once, so why bore you with repeat information?

Eggrollings will stay around.  I’m not going to delete it. Too many great memories.  And, there will still be an occasional post when something strikes my fancy.  I may even become inspired again, and get back to posting regularly.

Thanks to all of you that have been faithful readers.  I cherished your comments and feel like I know you, even if we may not have met, personally.  To those of you we have met, I’m thankful to blog land for your friendship, and hope our paths cross, again…..jc

  3. The following that read blog post on the Hitch-itch arena are people who are themselves sometimes unable to travel the way we do. I personally know the time involved to post daily but now I do it is for more than our own log of our travels but for friends we have yet to meet. Hope you keep us posted even if you do it in a summary form.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  8. I can certainly understand Jerry--I write my blog these days for myself, Michael, family and friends. If the occasional reader scrolls through that's OK, too. I enjoy your posts and enjoy knowing what you guys are up to. How is the granddaughter doing in college?

  9. I'm coming to the same conclusion as you with my chappytrails blog....takes me a couple of hours per post and I'd rather go DO something for 2 hours than write about the other hours. I've blogged for seven years and about ready to stop and just use Facebook for updates. See you there.

  11. I will definitely miss your posts. Each trip you take is a little different than the last even if you have been to the same place before. Posting on FB just isn't the same. It doesn't tell the story the way a blog does. Best of luck to you and I hope you will still post once in a while.

  13. You've open my eyes to so much especially when we'd travel MS. It's been a joy to get to know you although we've never actually lend a hand. Hope we hear from you every once in awhile.... As I loved writing about our travels I understand the time it takes and feeling like a repeat. Especially heading to Gulf Shores once again...how many beach pics can you post :) My new love is Instagram...easy peasy! Hope life continues to be good to you!!

  15. Hard to keep up with all the social media as it changes so fast and offers faster connections. I too hope you'll post occasionally and keep in touch so our trails will cross once again. Safe travels.

  16. Will miss the history lessons and out of the way places, but hopefully will see you, Wanda and Sally down the road! Plus you still have to get to Buckskin Park since I got your reservations! =) You have a way Jerry to make it all come alive and show the beauty of the gorgeous country our Lord has given us. Glad you are not taking it down completely so I can check back on areas I still want to visit. Continued safe travels and blessings on the road! Joan W.

  17. I can understand your feelings! I would never be able to keep up your pace of postings......

Hope that you will just take a long break and come back all refreshed...

I feel sad that I post so infrequently when we are not traveling...and even when we are on the road. But after an absence, the words start coming into my head and it feels so good to let them out!

Your blog and the resulting connections is so responsible for creating my "real" family of wandering souls!
