"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime"-MARK TWAIN

Gander, Newfoundland

The following day we visited Gander, Newfoundland.  Once a very important spot on the map for trans-continental flights, its importance waned until the day of September 11, 2001. It was at Gander that dozens of trans continent flights were forced down due to the bombings of the world trade center. The story of how the people of this small town turned out to help the thousands of travelers for a number of days is a story in itself. I had a number of pictures, but somehow deleted them.  Look it up, the story is worth it.

Below are some random pictures I took, and didn't lose. Patriotism loomed large in Gander. I'll let the pictures talk for themselves.

There was an airplane crash in Gander involving returning troops of the 101st Airborne, based in Ft Campbell, KY. Very moving.

That's all for now...jc
